Mountain Electronics Owners Honored as 2013 Entrepreneur of the Year

The Economic Development Commission (EDC) of Yancey County, North Carolina recently presented Whitney and George Brasington with the “2013 Entrepreneur of the Year” award.  The Brasingtons own and operate Mountain Electronics, a small but thriving electronics repair business in North Carolina that specializes in repairing circuit boards for the coin-laundry industry.

The Brasingtons bought the business from a friend of theirs, Jason Berry, in 2005, after both working for Mountain Electronics for several years.  Since they bought the business, Mountain Electronics has grown from 2 to 12 employees, and they are still expanding their team of skilled technicians and customer service representatives.  They have also just moved to a larger facility in the heart of North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains.

After receiving the award, Whitney Brasington said, “We attribute the success of our business to the support that we have received from the local community over the years.”  They mentioned that the local community college, Mayland Community College, has been a great resource for their business.  Whitney has taken advantage of many classes offered through Mayland’s Small Business Program to help her understand the intricacies of running a successful small business; things like getting incorporated, understanding payroll, and taxes.  The Brasingtons have also found Mayland’s Electronics Program to be an invaluable source for finding and hiring well-trained technicians.  As George said, “These technicians, along with our skilled office employees, have helped build Mountain Electronics into one of the country’s top commercial laundry repair centers – a niche we never even knew existed 10 years ago!”

Congratulations to the Brasingtons and Mountain Electronics crew!  Their hard work and dedication to quality service has paid off, and they have been an exceptional model of business growth in a time and place where too many jobs have been lost in recent years.
